Pending, 2015
A photo book depicting bureaucrats at work. The cropping of the images focuses on hands holding pens, processing paperwork and visually places the viewer on the other side of the desk, as if awaiting approval. The images in Pending were re-photographed at the City of Newark, NJ Municipal Archive. The author found them in various folders depicting Newark’s governmental history in the 1970’s and 80’s, and often with no other information about the individual depicted, the photographer or intended usage. Tracing paper covering the original images with an editors crop marks suggest images were reproduced.
